History
The Hummingbird Health and Conservation Program at the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California, Davis, was originally established by wildlife veterinary geneticist, Dr. Holly Ernest (now faculty at The University of Wyoming). Dr. Lisa Tell, an avian disease veterinarian, is currently the director of the program and one of the few hummingbird master banders that lives and bands in California. She and a team of volunteer citizen scientists and college student interns are hummingbird admirers that focus on establishing scientific data, which is used to help sustain healthy hummingbird populations.
